ABSTRACT

Information gathering is an essential skill for all students of communication. Students need to be able to identify, locate, and use print and electronic information sources in their class, professional, and research projects. These sources are extremely valuable and are accessible in libraries and electronically. We discuss these information sources and suggest how we might assess students' skills and knowledge about using the sources. Communication students and practitioners also need to ask questions of people who have the information they need. Interviewing skills are essential for conducting some research projects. We address the use of print and electronic resources to identify and to locate people to interview. However, the actual means of conducting an interview and assessing interviewing skills is beyond our scope.
