ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the Accessibility-Content-Revenue Framework to analyze the business models of emerging media. The essence of the framework is that the media market environment will determine what kind of webcaster types will be available. Different webcaster types will have different accessibility to audience through their transmission methods, usability features and other technical standards. They will also employ different content strategies. Categories were modified based on the input of native country collaborators to accommodate the idiosyncrasies of different markets. All research project participants used the same coding sheet except in countries where English fluency is low. In those countries, such as Japan, the instrument was translated by native co-researchers. All codes and definitions of the categories were given to the coders. The cost of content also makes a big difference in the content selected for the webcast. High cost content is usually content produced by large media companies with high production value such as blockbuster movies.
