ABSTRACT

“Odd” and “eccentric” are the most common words associated with schizotypal personality disorder (SPD). As with all personality disorders, this disorder is characterized by a chronic and long-standing impairment in psychosocial functioning that not only is maladaptive, but also causes functional impairment (Skodol et al., 2002). This difficulty typically is recognized by adolescence or early adulthood (American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2000). The primary difficulties experienced by the patient with SPD are cognitive and perceptual distortions, behavioral eccentricities, and interpersonal difficulties.
