ABSTRACT

As a psychologist, I have two identities-I am both a social psychologist and a personality psychologist. This dual identity is not only a harmonious one, but also one in which each part thrives on the benefits of the other’s presence. Having two hats to wear, so to speak, has taught me something about how better to wear each of them. I am not alone in this regard. Recent years have seen the emergence of the field of personality and social behavior. As a scientific enterprise, personality and social behavior emerged from the areas of overlap and intersection of personality and social psychology, and has been nurtured by investigators from both disciplines whose work has carried them back and forth across the bridge that their theoretical and empirical efforts have built between personality and social psychology.
