ABSTRACT

A growing number of U.S. students are not native English speakers. With the increasing pressure placed on all students-and their teachers-to score well on standardized testing, an issue that has previously received little attention has been justly brought into the spotlight. What is the best way to help English language learners (ELL) achieve academic success? What are the most effective teaching methods one can use when teaching ELLs? And going to a different level, what kind of training are teachers receiving in order to ensure ELL students’ success? What kind of preparation should they receive?
