ABSTRACT

Ralph Rosnow is not adverse to publishing collaboratively. Even casual observers will have noticed that Ralph Rosnow and Robert Rosenthal have not infrequently coauthored their roaring (rrrr!) books and articles, which they typically compose at a distance but publish together. I am more of a loner, so despite Ralph’s and my substantial overlappings of interests and our long friendship (almost family), the nearest we have to a joint publication is that both of us contributed chapters to Ralph L. Rosnow’s & Marianthi Georgoudi’s (1986) book, Contextualism and Understanding in Behavioral Science. Mention of Marianthi reminds us that, gone before her time, she is sorely missed. In this chapter I return to some of the epistemological issues raised in that 1986 book, issues that have long interested Ralph and me.
