ABSTRACT

From Jeffery, C.R. (1976). Criminal behavior and the physical environment: A perspective. American Behavioral Scientist, 20, 149-174.

Recent years have witnessed a revival of interest in environmental approaches to criminal behavior. In criminology we can trace three different sources of interest in criminal behavior and the physical environment. From the academic community we have a book on crime prevention and environmental design (Jeffery 1971), a book on the geography of crime (Harries 1974), and a book on the spatial analysis of crime (Pyle et al. 1974). Harries and Pyle are geographers, not criminologists.
