ABSTRACT

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence guidelines recommend a stepped-care model for depression in children and adolescents. The wish to please the interviewer can create differences in self-reported and interview-based questionnaires, which could lead to an underestimation of emotional or behavioural difficulties. The Diabetes Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire is made up of eight items that provide the capacity to assess overall diabetes treatment satisfaction, treatment satisfaction in specific areas, and perceived frequencies of hyperglycaemia and hypoglycaemia in young people living with diabetes, and their parents. The Hypoglycemia Fear Survey (HFS) was developed for use in adults with diabetes by Cox et al. Green et al. evaluated the psychometric properties of this measure in a diabetic youth population. The HFS is made up of 23 items and can be used to assess fear relating to hypoglycaemia in children/adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus and their parents.
