ABSTRACT

As a minister of justice, the prosecutor is expected to inform the defence of the convictions of any prosecution witness so that the defence may have the opportunity to cross-examine on credibility if they wish. Statutory provisions9 throughout the region enable a cross-examining party to prove the convictions of any witness if the witness denies them. In the case of prosecution witnesses, proof of any convictions must be made known to the defence to facilitate such cross-examination.
