ABSTRACT
Usually the chest X-ray in asthma is normal apart from rather large hyperinflated lungs, with flat diaphragms. Nevertheless, chest X-rays are essential in severe asthma attacks resulting in admission to hospital for the following reasons: • to exclude pneumothorax; • to exclude co-existing pneumonia; • to diagnose mediastinal emphysema.
