ABSTRACT

The EMSC was founded in 1975 and originally started its operations at the Institut de Physique du Globe de Strasbourg. It formally received its statutes in 1983 and in 1993 was moved to the Laboratoire de Détection et de Géophysique in Essonne, France. In 1987, the EMSC was charged by the Council of Europe to provide the Council with seismic warnings in the framework of the open partial agreement on the prevention of, protection against, and organisation of relief in major natural and technological disasters.
