ABSTRACT
One of the best documented facts of criminal behaviour is its strong correlation with age. First identified over one hundred years ago (Quetelet 1831), researchers have observed that, with age, criminal behaviour tends to decline. Thus it should come as no surprise to many that questions about the patterning of criminal careers and why they change over the life course are at the core of contemporary criminology (Shover 1996: 121).
