ABSTRACT
The particular difficulties of women in prison rarely attract public attention. Women are a very small proportion of the prison population and therefore easily forgotten in a criminal justice system which is run, very largely, by men, to deal primarily with male offenders … I hope that this report will help to ensure that women are not forgotten in the current debate about the future of our prison system and that the proposals put forward will be of assistance in planning a more humane and just system for men and women in prison.
