ABSTRACT
We think that much useful work could be done if every young prostitute brought before the courts … were remanded for a few weeks, in custody if necessary. Short remands such as we have in mind have enabled probation officers and other social workers to smooth out difficulties which have prevented young offenders from obtaining employment and so compelled or encouraged their continuance in crime.
