ABSTRACT

In what might be seen as one of the most positive legislative developments since the arrival of New Labour in 1997, the Crime and Disorder Act of 1998 has created statutory partnership arrangements across England and Wales to develop local crime reduction strategies. Although the 1998 legislation was to embrace a wide range of community justice issues, the central feature of the Act for police and local government was a new requirement to work with other agencies in partnership in developing local crime and disorder reduction initiatives.
