ABSTRACT
A narrow definition of a mentally disordered offender would be someone who falls within the diagnostic criteria set out in s. 1 of the Mental Health Act 1983 and who has been convicted of a criminal offence. However, in practice, the term is frequently applied in a more liberal fashion.
