ABSTRACT
Neighbourhood policing seeks to increase interaction with the public in defined geographical areas and, as such, shares common ground with community policing. The term ‘neighbourhood policing’ is currently preferred by the government, in part in recognition that individuals can belong to several communities while living in a single neighbourhood (Innes 2005) and also to underline a difference in the mechanisms through which outcomes are intended to be delivered.
