ABSTRACT
The Crime and Disorder Act 1998 was the first and most important piece of criminal legislation of the New Labour administrations of the late 1900s and early 2000s. This Act establishes for the first time statutory responsibilities for crime and disorder reduction in local authority areas in England and Wales.
