ABSTRACT
Francis Ford Coppola's film The Conversation (1974) hinges around the surreptitious taping and photographing of a couple in a busy city square. The lead character, Harry Caul, is the acknowledged expert who undertakes this assignment; his knowledge of surveillance makes him a guarded and deeply private man, traits that early in the narrative make him appear paranoid.
