ABSTRACT

We joined five other new mothers and babies in a bay in one of the two postnatal wards. I was a bit disappointed not to be on the other maternity ward at the opposite end of the corridor where I had been for antenatal stays. There seemed to be a friendly competitive element between the two wards and I admit I had liked the other ward and wanted to share these few special days with the staff who had nursed me before. In retrospect maybe I could have asked to be moved but at the time it did not seem too important. I did not really establish any close links with any of the people on the ward this time. Perhaps we were all too busy with our newborns instead of killing time with magazines and chatting.
