ABSTRACT

Domestic tourism in Mongolia is less researched and largely overshadowed by research on international tourism (JICA, 1998; TASIS, 1998; MRTT, 2005). By way of reliable data, only one domestic tourism survey, conducted by the Ministry of Road, Transport and Tourism (MRTT) in 2004, is available. Nonetheless, the absence of studies on the country's domestic travellers and holiday-makers does not mean that Mongolians are oblivious to holiday travels and visitations in their own country. On the contrary, domestic tourism in Mongolia is an increasingly popular activity that most certainly affects the country's economy, environment and society.
