ABSTRACT
Indigenous peoples insist that they be recognized as ‘peoples’ not ‘people’. The ‘s’ distinction is very important, because it symbolizes not just the basic human rights to which all individuals are entitled, but also land, territorial and collective rights, subsumed under the right to self-determination.
