ABSTRACT

This chapter will provide a critical review of the theories underlying new and emerging methods of ventilation analysis, considering their relation to established methods, their practical applications, their fundamental limitations and the consequent challenges for future development. Consideration will be limited to macroscopic methods, with an emphasis placed on multi-zone and sub-zone (zonal) approaches. Microscopic methods based on both analytical and computational fluid dynamic (CFD) solutions to governing partial differential continuum equations will only be considered when integrated with macroscopic approaches.
