ABSTRACT
Is it really possible to convert a city to an eco-city? Advocates of Eco-cities claim that we can. Cities are constantly changing and evolving in any case, with an enormous investment of energy and resources. Advocates of Eco-cities are simply saying that we must direct the course of that evolution towards particular goals (Girardet 1993). This chapter argues for denser cities and gives examples of initiatives to create models for urban living.
