ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the fundamental principles of partnerships involving the large-scale private sector. The discussion links with the preceding chapters that focused on the actors, scope and content, and on organisational and contractual aspects of a partnership framework focused on the poor. It focuses on the basic requirements for establishing sustainable public–private partnerships (PPPs), addressing the principles of transparency, accountability, specificity, legitimacy, flexibility, equity etc., as well as those specifically pertaining to PPPs for the poor.
