ABSTRACT

James Karr discusses ecological integrity by referring to ‘biological integrity’. Laura Westra, on the other hand, in her earlier work has distinguished biological from ecological integrity (Westra, 1994) and, later, ‘macro-integrity’ from ‘micro-integrity’ (Westra, 1998). The latter is intended to define ecosystem integrity, while the former refers to the integrity of the component parts of ecosystems, including human organisms.
