ABSTRACT

With the indications that climate change is accelerating and its impacts are intensifying, the need for aggressive and effective action is becoming increasingly clear. The longer that we wait to get started on the transition to a new energy system for the US and the world, the larger and more difficult the steps that we have to take will become. In Chapter 15 of this book, Sir Crispin Tickell, UK’s former ambassador to the United Nations and former chairman of the Board of Directors of the Climate Institute, provides an overview of actions occurring on the international stage aimed at putting the community of nations on the path to meeting the objective of the 1992 Framework Convention on Climate Change, namely to ‘prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system’.
