ABSTRACT
New thinking on strategies for sustainable development emphasizes multi-stakeholder processes, continuous learning and improvement, and effective mechanisms for coordinating strategic planning. International endorsement of the principles underpinning this new thinking would help all countries to make progress, especially following the key concern for such strategies shown during the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg in August–September 2002.
