ABSTRACT
This chapter shows how a landscape can be thought of as a mosaic (or patchwork) made up of different components (for example, various land uses, land tenure, drainage patterns and human settlements) and suggests some tools that can be used to understand and represent this. The chapter also highlights the importance of considering the contributions of different parts of the landscape (including both forest and non-forest areas) to the overall objectives of an FLR initiative.
