ABSTRACT
In partnership with its stakeholders, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has the task of protecting people's health and safety by ensuring that risks from work activities are properly controlled. In meeting this task, the HSE undertakes a risk-based regulation of work activities that, as this chapter will illustrate, is all about sensible, proportionate risk management which is, itself, essentially a matter of applying sound judgement.
