ABSTRACT
The research presented here is based on a 15 year research programme on sustainable and participatory development in several countries. Two main questions are raised:
How do actors translate and implement global participatory and environmental norms (or not) into local projects, and behaviours and values, at the level of the individual?
What is the link between participatory democracy and environmental protection?
