ABSTRACT

Once we leave the main river, our guides paddle slowly along the tributary, pointing out kingfishers and herons darting ahead of the canoe and capuchin monkeys in the trees overhead. Our destination is an eco-lodge by a small lake. Rather a luxurious lodge as it turns out; a village of smart, thatched cabins running down to the water, a watch tower and a dining hall that serves excellent food. Each afternoon a caiman swims slowly across the surface of the lake and after dark the shores are bright with fireflies. Guests are taken on forest walks, to birdwatching hides and on leisurely boat trips.
