ABSTRACT

Several contributions (e.g. NRC and NAE, 2004; Ogden et al, 2004; Hisschemöller et al, 2006; Solomon and Banerjee, 2006) have assessed the possibility and desirability of a ‘hydrogen economy’ and the costs that might be involved. For the transition to hydrogen and fuel cells to occur in a largely market-based economy, these technologies must compete effectively with the fossil-fuel alternatives (NRC and NAE, 2004).
