ABSTRACT

The Canary Islands are an autonomous Spanish archipelago of 7447km2, which is located 100km off the north-west coast of mainland Africa, west of Morocco, and supports a total population of two million. There are seven major islands, one minor island and several small islets. The major islands are Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro (Figure CS14.1).
