UK Energy in an Era of Globalization: Trends, Technologies and Environmental Impacts

Three factors define the role that energy currently plays within the UK economy:

the lack of any significant growth trend in primary and final energy demand;

a long-term decline in carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions since a high point in 1970; and

the very recent emergence of the UK as a net energy importer following decades of self-sufficiency.
