ABSTRACT

The cities included in this chapter are from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) which brought together the ex-Soviet states (except the Baltic states) after the demise of the USSR in 1991. Eleven states joined CIS including five from central Asia that are not included in this chapter. The remaining European CIS states include seven cities that qualify for inclusion above the 0.05 connectivity threshold: these ‘European post-Soviet cities’ include five new state capitals and two non-capital cities from Russia.
