ABSTRACT

In the end, what can be said about paths forward that help to close, or perhaps (more modestly) just to narrow, the gap between science and decision-making? In addressing this question, it is important to note at the outset that the gap should probably not be fully eliminated. The gap often exists for good reason. The findings of science are never the complete story. Even where many of the problems noted in this volume have been ameliorated and narrowed, what the decision-maker needs to know almost always extends beyond the pale of science.
