ABSTRACT
This chapter aims to:
Provide an overview of the data and modelling tools with which the scientific evidence base is able to support assessment, decision-making and adaptive marine planning and management;
Discuss the challenges to implementing an ecosystem approach (EA) utilizing the available evidence base, tools for assessment and the current framework for developing shared knowledge; and
Consider how the ecosystem approach may be facilitated by existing methodologies applied within a marine spatial planning (MSP) framework.
