ABSTRACT
Water resources play an important and multifaceted role in post-conflict peace-building. Immediately after conflict ceases, access to water and sanitation is vital for meeting basic human needs. In the longer term, effective water resource management can provide critical peace dividends by rebuilding livelihoods and promoting reconciliation. However, despite an increasing recognition of the value of integrating assessment and management of water and other natural resources into the planning and implementation of recovery and post-conflict peacebuilding, there is still little guidance on how this integration should take place.
