ABSTRACT
Living far from centres of power, the estimated 600 million people living in tropical forest areas rarely have formal influence on decisions about their natural resources or about public investments that might improve their well-being. Yet policies that decentralize control over natural resource management and governance have enormous potential to give local people more influence.
