ABSTRACT

Organic is very much an accepted concept, and is a growing trend in Asia today; figures show continued expansion of the sector throughout the region. Although growth of the organic sector is primarily driven export markets, local markets are reportedly taking off in many of the big cities in developing countries, including in Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Bangkok, Beijing, Shanghai, Jakarta, Delhi, Bangalore and others. Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore continue to serve as engines of growth for the organic sector here, however. With a vibrant regional economy and many of the biggest cities in the world located in Asia, greater sector growth can be expected for the immediate future.
