ABSTRACT
Since 1999, the Foundation Ecology & Agriculture (SOEL) and the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL), in cooperation with the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM), have annually collected data about organic farming worldwide. This activity has been supported by NürnbergMesse, the organizers of BioFach Trade Fair since 1999. Since 2008 the work is also supported by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) / Economic Development and Cooperation (within the framework of its support activities for organic production in developing countries) and the International Trade Centre (ITC). For the 2008 edition, the global survey on organic agriculture was carried out for the ninth time (between September 2007 and January 2008).
