ABSTRACT

The Pacific region comprises of a number of island countries, and includes the Cook Islands, the Federated State of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Tonga and Tuvalu and Vanuatu. The Pacific islands region has a collective population of approximately 8 million people, and a combined island land mass of 525′000 square kilometers in a sea area of more that 14′000’000 square kilometers.
