ABSTRACT

The Osa Peninsula is one of Costa Rica’s most biologically diverse regions, as well as being of great importance because of its natural, social and cultural riches. This region, located in the south-eastern part of the country’s southern Pacific zone, covers an area of approximately 150,000 hectares, with vegetation characteristic of tropical and subtropical rainforest. The area contains 12 different types of ecosystem, including mangroves, herbaceous lagoons, herbaceous swamps, Yolillo palm swamps, mountain forests and cloud forests.
