ABSTRACT

The ability to delegate is a crucial skill for any worker to acquire. Delegation is the process by which a manager grants or permits the transfer of authority to someone to operate within prescribed limits. The delegator remains accountable for the performance of their subordinates. The delegator trusts and permits the subordinate to act, allowing freedom of action within the agreed terms of reference, and finally notices a job well done by rewarding practically or with verbal praise. A good delegator will ensure that the objectives provide timely feedback so that any necessary corrective steps can be taken, and that the resources and authority given are sufficient for achieving the objectives.
