ABSTRACT

AMAJOR THEME OF THIS VOLUME The next section reviews is to explore the interdependencies between the natural environment and economic growth. Such interdependencies arise because economic development affects the state of the natural environment, which in turn affects the rate of economic growth. The previous chapter explored the role of natural amenities as an engine of economic growth in a theoretical framework. This chapter follows up with an empirical analysis. Specifically, we evaluate the effect of natural amenities, accumulated human and physical capital, and economic geography on several indicators of economic growth, including net migration rates, percentage changes in the number of jobs, and income growth.
