ABSTRACT
Forest land managers have several treatment options available to reduce the risk from wildfire. The three most prominent treatments are thinning (or logging on a largerscale), using prescribed fire, and a combined approach. To choose among the various treatment options for active land management from society's perspective requires a complete accounting of all market and nonmarket benefits and costs of each option, as well as public acceptability.
