ABSTRACT

This case study deals with the development of procurement education and training within the Australian federal, state and territory jurisdictions. Each jurisdiction operates independently with its own policy and practice regimes. Australia has a relatively small population of 20 million (as of 2005) which is spread over a relatively large geographical area. The considerable geographical distances between major population centres and the significant variations in regional economic development and performance present challenges to the management of public sector purchasing and supply. This applies particularly to the education and training of procurement professionals.
