ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I consider the flexibility and transferability of the Activist Approach via a sensory (auto)ethnography derived from data collected in a six-day firefighting camp for girls in Sydney, Australia. In presenting the data as a sensory (auto)ethnography, I aim to position the ever-present researcher alongside insights about the potential for the Activist Approach to be transferred beyond school and sports settings to more fully engage youth. My conclusion is, maybe it can. To further extend this research and to guide others, I close by sharing what I have learned about the context, participants, and Activist Approach, and why this is important.
