ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the theoretical perspectives that have influenced and continue to inspire the Activist Approach. Extending the conversation from Kim Oliver and David Kirk’s initial articulation of the Activist Approach, this chapter further explores Student Voice, the Language of Critique, and the Language of Possibility. Additionally, the features of the Activist Approach are presented with emphasis on how they continue to evolve and develop language around these ideas in conjunction with action for possibility. By presenting the approach’s fluid and interconnected principles, the hope is to offer insights and inspiration towards possibilities for new perspectives to enter the ongoing dialogue.
